KUWAIT, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Homoud Al-Sabah on Wednesday praised the good results scored by the Kuwaiti shooting team at the Asian games in Incheon, South Korea, winning eight medals, including one gold.
Sheikh Salman, speaking at the airport upon receiving the returning team, expressed congratulations to the champions, namely the shooter Abdullah Al-Taraqi who won the gold in the individual skeet category.
He expressed hope the other Kuwaiti teams currently taking part in ASIAD's other competitions would make more good results to raise the name of Kuwait high, re-stressing on the State particular concern for the youth and the athletes.
The minister congratulated His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince and His Highness the Premier and the people of Kuwait on this sports achievement. He also expressed gratitude to the Public Authority for Youth and Sports namely its Director-General, Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, for offering all needed facilities for the Kuwaiti teams.
For his part, the chairman of the Kuwaiti and Arab shooting federations, Duaij Al-Otaibi, expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti team for such accomplishments, noting that the shooters would be given all help possible in preparation for the world's top shooters contest due in the Azeri republic next month.
For his part, the gold winner Al-Taraqi said he faced some difficulties to maintain the top post in these competitions. Guidelines of His Highness the Amir to him, the other shooters and athletes after the 2010 Guangzhou championship stimulated him to retain the first rank.
Al-Taraqi said he was nominated by the International Shooting Sport Federation as the world best shooter in 2014. He thanked the minister for his encouragement and expressed identical sentiments toward Dr. Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Chairman of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee.
The other Kuwaiti shooter, Fehaid Al-Dihani, said the Kuwaiti team faced fierce competition during the tournament, particularly by the Chinese. He expressed satisfaction for winning four medals, including three silver and one bronze. (end) ma.tb.rk
