Clashes between Iraqi Army, "Daash" militants in Mosul

IRBIL, June 6 (KUNA) -- Clashes erupted between Iraqi Army troops and (Daash) militants belonging to Islamic State of Iraq due to the militants' attempt to control residential neighborhoods in Mosul, police said on Saturday.
The fighting broke out, early on Friday, between the soldiers and the armed extremists, trying to control the areas of Tahrir, Al-Zahraa, Al-Intisar, Sumer and regions in east and south-east of the northern city of Mosul, a police source told KUNA.
The regulars set afire 20 cars belonging to Daash militants and killed some of them.
For his part, the governor of Mosul Ethel Nujaifi said in a statement that the military operation, launched in Mosul in the morning, is still ongoing.
Meanwhile, Nineveh province witnessed today the killing and injuring of at least 55 people, including women and children in two separate car bombs in Muwafaqiya village east of Mosul. (end) sbr.hs
