EU, NATO welcome deal in Ukraine

BRUSSELS, Feb 21 (KUNA) -- Presidents of the European Commission and European Parliament, Jose Manuel Barroso and Martin Schulz respectively, welcomed an agreement reached by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and opposition leaders, saying it opens way for a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine.
In separate statements, Barosso and Schulz called for the implementation of the agreement and to avoid violence and further bloodshed.
On his part, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said "this agreement should bring an end to the terrible bloodshed and suffering and pave the way for democratic dialogue and reforms." Earlier, the president of the European Council Herman van Rompuy had issued a similar statement praising the Foreign Ministers of France, Germany and Poland who facilitated this agreement.
