CAIRO, Feb 13 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil Al-Araby
said here on Thursday the league will suggest a new Arab humanitarian
mechanism during the next Arab summit in Kuwait in March.
Addressing the 93rd meeting of the Arab Economic and Social Affairs
Ministerial Council, which kicked off here earlier in the day, Al-Araby said
the planned mechanism stems from the fact that integrated humanitarian support
requires social intervention to ease out the aftershocks of conflicts and
natural disasters.
He stressed that this mechanism would surely contribute to delivering
humanitarian relief aid to affected people on both Arab and international
levels.
Al-Araby said the UN has already established a humanitarian office aiming
to wipe out obstacles and impediments facing efforts to deliver relief aid to
affected people immediately.
He lamented that there are deteriorating humanitarian conditions in a
number of Arab countries like Syria, Mauritania, Djibouti and Comoros. (pickup
