DAMASCUS, Jan 3 (KUNA) -- Over 30 Syrians were killed and scores other
injured in the clashes between Syrian government armed forces and opposition
fighters on Friday.
After a two-day fierce battle and the killing of scores of people, the
Syrian opposition fighters seized the public hospital in the Town of Jassem in
Deraa Governorate, which was springboard for government forces, the Syrian
Revolution General Commission (SRGC) said in a press statement.
The SRGC added that the opposition fighters also destroyed a government
tank during an attack on a government military checkpoint between Zemreen and
Samleen in northern Deraa.
In Idlib Governorate, three civilians were killed and several others
injured after the government forces' shelling of a residential area. In Hama
Governorate, five soldiers were killed in clashes with the opposition Free
Syrian Army fighters.
In Damascus countryside, one child was killed and scores injured when the
government military planes bombed the residential neighborhoods with barrel
Heavy fighting and bombardment continued between the government and
opposition forces in several cities across the nation as the government sought
to regain control of the opposition-held areas and the opposition forces try
to seize new ones.
In the meantime, Aleppo Governorate was the scene of the deadly clashes
between two Islamist groups, the Organization of the Islamic State of Iraq and
the Levant, an Al-Qaeda affiliate, and Jaish (army) Al-Mujahideen. The clashes
between the two groups extended to over four towns in the governorate. (end)
