Al-Najjar told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that modern Stretta system was used on a 30-year-old Kuwaiti patient two days ago. The patient was suffering from symptoms of the disease for many years and already did an operation in the United Kingdom, but it failed and he did not respond positively to it.
The upper endoscope is used in this technique to treat a GERD case, without surgical intervention, where it takes only 35 minutes and the patient can go back directly to normal life, he added.
Al-Najjar also stressed that this technique was approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and has achieved good success, according to long-term studies conducted on hundreds of patients.
Complications after the operation are virtually non-existent, the doctor added.
He explained that this operation is suitable for infections suffered by esophagus patients and patients who have underwent sleeve gastrectomy and suffer from symptoms of acid reflux and use antacids for long periods of time.
This technique is also useful for patients who cannot tolerate surgery because of their health status or patients who do not prefer the surgical option, he added.
Dr. Al-Najjar said the patient who underwent the operation was discharged from hospital two hours after the medical procedure and was in good health. (end) shd.ysa.ss KUNA 211300 Dec 13NNNN
