GAZA, Dec 20 (KUNA) -- A UN official warned against the dangerous
conditions in Al-Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp near the Syrian capital,
Damascus.
Filippo Grandi, Commissioner General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for
Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), said the situation in the camp
was worsening everyday and the UN agency was unable to help the refugees
trapped inside the camp.
Grandi, in a statement available here, said it might be too late to help
thousands of people including children if the conditions inside the camp were
not urgently addressed.
He appealed to the Syrian government to facilitate the job of UNRWA workers
to help the Palestinians in the Yarmouk camp, the largest in Syria.
Grandi said there were 20,000 Palestinian refugees trapped inside the camp,
many of them lack food. Conditions became harder with the ongoing fighting, he
added. (end)
