KUWAIT, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- Twelve soldiers were killed and thirty others were
wounded Friday in a suicide car bomb attack on a military command center in
southern Yemen.
The attack in the district of Ahwar targeted the command center of the
111th Brigade located in the province of Abyan, reported the BBC, citing a
Yemeni military source.
The suicide bomber had used a booby-trapped armored vehicle to launch the
attack, said the source.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Suspected Al-Qaeda fighters
usually carry out attacks in southern Yemen, a lawless region where militant
groups thrive.
Two military bases in Mukala and Shabwa were similarly attacked in the past
few weeks.
Ali Al-Sarari, advisor to the Yemeni prime minister, pointed the finger of
accusation at supporters of the ousted president Ali Abdullah Al-Saleh for
providing Al-Qaeda fighters and operatives with intelligence information
enabling them to carry out such suicidal car bomb attacks. (end)
