KUWAIT, April 29 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's men's national squash team will take
part in the five-day Asian Squash Championship, due to be held in Islamabad on
Wednesday, during which Kuwait's Abdullah Al-Mezayyin will be handed the 2012
Outstanding Asian Player award.
The squad, that will only be taking part in the singles, includes
Al-Mezayin (seeded fourth in the competition and world number 36), Ammar
Al-Tamimi and Ali Al-Ramzi. The tournament will group only nine countries,
including Kuwait, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Sri Lanka
and the host country.
"We have been receiving grueling daily morning and evening training
sessions amid a local training camp at the Sheikh Salem Sabah Al-Salem
Al-Sabah courts and we are more than ready for this important event,"
Al-Mezayyin told KUNA.
After taking part in several local and international competitions,
Al-Mazayyin regarded this is also a strong platform for preparations ahead of
the tournament, expressing the Kuwaiti players' determination on displaying
top notch performances in the Asian arena, in light of the country's recent
well recorded continental accomplishments.
Al-Mazayyin and co. will have their work cut out for them when they face
tough opposition from the continent's finest, namely the tournament's top seed
and world number 22 Ong Beng Hee of Malaysia, second-seeded world number 31
Max Lee of Hong Kong and third-seeded world number 40 Nafiizwan Adnan, also of
Malaysia.
He praised the Kuwait Squash Federation, for allowing him and his
colleagues to take part in the competition, expressing both pride and delight
at being selected for the personal continental honour. (end)
