SANAA, March 29 (KUNA) -- Yemen has asked the US government anew to hand
over 90 Yemeni prisoners in Guantanamo detention facility in Cuba, and in
Bagram, Afghanistan.
Yemeni foreign minister Abu Bakr Al-Qurbi sent a letter to US Secretary of
State John Kerry asking him to extradite the 90 Yemeni detainees, official
news agency (Saba) reported Friday.
Al-Qurbi said Yemen was keen on rehabilitating the prisoners before merging
them in the society as good citizens.
"The closure of Guantanamo file will restore confidence in values of
freedom and justice," he said.
Yemeni President Abdo Rabbu Mansour Hadi, during a meeting with US attorney
general in Washington last September, said Yemen would build a special
rehabilitation facility for the Yemeni prisoners.
Yemenis in Guantanamo have been on hunger strike since February and health
of many of them worsened. (end)
