VIENNA, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- Iranian Ambassador to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh
affirmed here Saturday that his country was very optimistic about the new
round of talks with the IAEA and the G5+1 nations, which would be held this
month, noting that the success of the talks lies in reaching realistic and
positive solutions to the nuclear file.
Diplomatic sources told KUNA that Soltanieh's statement came during his
meeting with the Ambassadors from member-states of the Non-Aligned Movement
(NAM).
If the others came to the meeting next Wednesday in Tehran with positive
and realistic goals, then Iran would be obliged to continue the talks till a
settlement is reached, said the Iranian diplomat.
On the upcoming February 26 talks in Kazakhstan, Soltanieh said that the
meeting should refer to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as the base for the
talks.
The dispute over the Iranian nuclear file revolves around the G5+1 states;
the US, Russia, China, the UK, France, and Germany, calls for Tehran to halt
uranium enrichment operations in fears of developing nuclear arms. The Iranian
government, on the other hand, is stressing that the NPT allowed the uranium
enrichment if it was aimed at peaceful usage. (end)
