BAGHDAD, Jan 12 (KUNA) -- Iraq said on Saturday it was set to close two
border crossings with Syria a few days after closing the Traibeel border
crossing with Jordan.
The northwestern Rabeea and Al-Waleed border crossings will be closed as of
Sunday, announced Iraq's Defence Ministry.
The decision was taken due to security concerns and will resume until
further notice, according to acting Defence Minister Saadoun Al-Dulaimi.
The concerns are that armed rebels could cross the border from either
Jordan or Syria to take part in violent activities in Iraq.
Protests across Iraq calling against secular divisions and voicing support
for incumbent President Nouri Al-Maliki have entered their 21st day. (end)
