Kuwait recommends Sri Lanka further boost human rights

GENEVE, Nov 5 (KUNA) -- Kuwait, at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Monday, recommended that Sri Lankan government pursue special efforts to implement a national plan to boost human rights.
Kuwait, represented by advisor of the permanent mission at the UN in Geneve, Saud Al-Saeedi, requested Sri Lanka present the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) to the council to advance Millennium Development Goals (MDG).
However, he praised Sri Lanka's government for efforts for enhancing human rights at the national level.
Kuwait also hailed the implementation of Sri Lanka government of the approved National Action Plan for Protection of human right in 2008.
The diplomat stated Sri Lanka has vastly developed and achieved peace in all segments of the society, after the conflict that ended in 2009.
He also praised Sri Lanka's goals of "executing the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission in 2010, resettling all conflict-displaced people, rehabilitation of ex-combatants and elminating 98 percent of mines and ammunition." (end) ta.hs KUNA 051804 Nov 12NNNN
