VIENNA, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- Iraq said Monday any attempt to clear a Middle
East region from nuclear weapons should include Israel's joining of the
Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and placing its nuclear facilities to the
IAEA's inspection.
Iraq knows very well that establishing a region free of nuclear weapons in
the Middle East is "an important practical steps" towards disarming nuclear
arms in other areas to ultimately achieve international peace and security,
minister of science and technology Dr. Abdulkareem Al-Samarrae told the
general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He said Iraq has exerted efforts towards making the Middle East free of
nuclear weapons.
Al-Samarrae also talked about Iraq's political endeavros, citing the host
of a meeting of the P5+1 and Iran.
He, meanwhile, said Iraq was committed to the international treaties. Iraq,
he added, ratified IAEA's additional protocol over the comprehensive
guarantees. (end)
