MADRID, Aug 27 (KUNA) -- Spanish and French police have arrested an ETA member in southeast France near the borders with Spain, the interior ministry said Monday.
It added that police forces from both countries arrested Arturo Villanueva Arteaga, who has been wanted by Spain since 2003, in the French town of Urrugne.
Arteaga is facing a European arrest warrant for being a member in the separatist ETA.
Arteaga, 35, was arrested twice in 1998 and once in 2000 on charges of committing crimes and attacks against police in the Spanish city of Pamplona.
This is the 24th ETA member to be arrested since the outlawed movement announced cessation of armed activities last October 20, and called upon the French and Spanish governments to open dialogue in yet another bid to solve the conflict.
ETA was established in 1956 by a group of radical students who sought separation of the 20,000-sq-km Basque province from Spain. This had sparked armed conflict that claimed 829 people. (end) hnd.bs KUNA 280022 Aug 12NNNN
