ISTANBUL, July 30 (KUNA) -- Two Turkish soldiers were killed and 10 others
were injured during violent clashes between the Turkish army and members of
Kurdistan Workers' Party (PPK), south-eastern Turkey, Turkish military sources
announced Monday.
Turkish Ihlas News Agency reported that the Commander-in-Chief of the
Turkish Army said in a statement that the clashes broke out in the town of
Semdinli in Hakkari Province, south-east of the country, noting that the
wounded were immediately admitted to the military hospital in the province.
The agency added that a large number of Turkish special forces arrived to
the area in order to track down the members of the outlawed PKK in Turkey.
Furthermore, the clashes came at a time of growing tensions between the
Turkish armed forces and PKK members who have stepped up their attacks against
the army in the recent months. (end)
