Saudi fundraising campaign for Syria collects 90 million

RIYADH, July 29 (KUNA) -- Saudi citizens continued granting financial aid for the Syrian people after extending scheduled of the national fundraising campaign for Syria till next Monday, it was officially reported on Sunday.
Waves of Saudis have continued pouring to campaign centers in response to the call by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz for supporting the Syrian people.
Official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said sum of the donations totaled more than 341 million Saudi riyals (approximately USD 90 million), late on Saturday.
The donors have been giving the money at offices of special committees tasked with executing the campaign, based in the Kingdom's districts and governorates.
The campaign was scheduled to end on Friday, but it was extended till next Monday due to high number of citizens, expatriates and foundations willing to help the Syrian people.
The campaign supervisor, Interior Minister Prince Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud, lauded all efforts behind the success of this humanitarian aid. King Abdullah donated more than 20 million SR (USD 5 million) to the fund while Crown Prince and Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud gave more than 10 million SR (USD 2.5 million).
Large quantities of non-financial donations, including foodstuffs, medicines, medical appliances, clothes, tents, blankets and jewelry are being also collected. (end) ud.rk KUNA 291043 Jul 12NNNN
