WASHINGTON, June 29 (KUNA) -- A Kuwaiti delegation has held official talks with US officials where they discussed the release of the two Kuwaiti detainees in Guantanamo Bay detention camp, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Washington Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said on Friday.
Sheikh Salem told KUNA that the meeting was part of a series of other meetings that were held, and will be held in the upcoming weeks, with the Americans; these talks follow the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to find a quick solution to bring back the detainees to their homeland as soon as possible.
The Kuwaiti envoy asserted that the file of the Kuwaiti detainees in Guantanamo Bay prison has been a top priority for both the Kuwaiti and US governments; Kuwait had received 10 prisoners so far and only two are left in the detention camp.
The Kuwaiti delegation consisted of officials from the Foreign Ministry, Interior Ministry and the Public Prosecution. The Kuwaiti detainees' defense attorney Abdulrahama Al-Haroon was also present at the meeting. (end) ss.nfm KUNA 290936 Jun 12NNNN
