GCC condemns Syria''s failure to implement Annan''s plan

JEDDAH, June 5 (KUNA) -- Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers Tuesday condemned the Syrian regime's failure to comply with UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan's six-point plan, aimed at ending violence in the troubled Arab country and pave way for political dialogue.
The foreign ministers, in a final communique following their one-day meeting, urged the international community to live up to its responsibility to stop the killing machine, destruction and forced deportation.
The international community should protect the Syrian people and put an end to the Syrian regime's recklessness vis-a-vis the innocent people, the foreign ministers said.
They welcomed the recent Arab foreign ministers' call on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to enforce the full and immediate implementation of Annan's plan within a specific timetable and through Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
The foreign ministers, noted the communique, welcomed the UN Human Rights Concil's (HRC) condemnation of killing in Syria, and the formation of an international fact-finding commission to investigate the massacre in the Syrian town of Houla in which 108 people were killed.

The foreign ministers, meanwhile, condemned the terrorist attack in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, on May 21 this year that killed dozens of servicemen and civilians.
They welcomed Yemeni President Abdo Rabbu Mansour Hadi's endeavors to implement the GCC initiative that ended the political conflict in Yemen.
They praised outcome of Friends of Yemen meeting that was recently held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and welcomed the progress in the GCC-funded development projects in Yemen.
On Iraq, the GCC foreign ministers called upon Iraq to implement all international obligations with Kuwait, like the maintenance of border signs in line with UN resolution 833, identifying whereabouts of remains of missing Kuwaiti and third-country nationals, and returning Kuwait's national archive.
The top diplomats reaffirmed commitment to Iraq's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
They called upon the Iraqi government to exert efforts to strengthen stability, prosperity and unity of Iraq, as well as building confidence with neighboring countries.
They also urged all Iraqi parties to achieve a comprehensive conciliation that would pave way for and Iraq based on rule of law and respect of human rights. (more) yms.bs KUNA 052032 Jun 12NNNN
