BRUSSELS, May 31 (KUNA) - The European Union Thursday reiterated its
support to the six-point plan of UN/Arab League special envoy to Syria, Kofi
Annan, and ruled out any military intervention in the country.
"The EU and the High Representative are discussing the Syrian situation all
the time. All our actions must be in line with international decisions. We
support Mr. Annan's plan for peace," Michael Mann, spokesman for EU High
Representative Catherine Ashton, told journalists.
"Right now, the military question or options are not on the table," he
stressed.
The spokesman declined to comment on media report that US President Barack
Obama on Wednesday -- in a video conference with German Chancellor Angela
Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Mario
Monti -- discussed the possibility of military intervention in Syria outside
the UN context.
" I don't have a comment on that conversation and obviously I don't have
details available to me," Mann added. (end)
