Algeria starts building grand mosque

ALGIERS, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- The construction of Grand Mosque of Algiers started at Al-Muhammadia district, east Algiers, Tuesday after signing a Euro one billion-worth contract with a Chinese company.
The contract was signed by Director General of the Algerian National Agency for the Implementation and Management of the Grand Mosque of Algiers (ANAGERMA) Olwi Mohammad Al-Ghedr and the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) director general in the presence of Algerian Minister of Religious Affairs Bouabdellah Ghlamallah and presidential advisor Mohammad Ali Bu-Ghazi.
Under the deal, the construction works are scheduled to complete in 42 months and the mosque will be opened in August, 2015.
The project, to cover a total area of 400,000 sq meters, will create 17,000 new jobs including 10,000 for the Algerians.
It will consist of 12 buildings including a large library and a 300 m high minaret. The designed mosque can provide room for up to 12,000 worshipers. (end) ft.gb KUNA 282255 Feb 12NNNN
