KUWAIT, Feb 19 (KUNA) -- A recently-introduced smoking ban in public
places, including restaurants, cafes and hotels, does not include shisha
parlours, Kuwait's Ministry of Commerce and Industry said on Sunday.
The ban also does not apply to designated smoking areas in cafes,
restaurants and malls as long as these areas are separated from their
remaining surroundings, ministry official Ali Al-Hajeri told KUNA.
The move is aimed at limiting the dangers of smoking and fighting the
habit, he added.
The decision was adopted last Monday, after gaining the approval of the
Kuwaiti Cabinet. It obliges commercial establishments to conform to this
decision, or otherwise to face legal action.
This comes after an earlier ban on smoking in public places, including
schools, universities and colleges, libraries, prayer halls and medical
establishments. (end)
