Gov''t to focus on improving electricity, water services in line with development plan -- Al-Fahad

development plan -- Al-Fahad (With photos) KUWAIT, Oct 24 (KUNA) -- The Government will focus on improving electricity and water services in line with the development plan, Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said Sunday.
Remarks of Sheikh Ahmad, who also doubles as Minister of State for Development Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs, were on the occasion of signing contracts for Mina Abdullah's water reservoir project at the Ministry of Electricity and Water and with the presence of Minister Dr. Bader Al-Shureiaan and Chairman of the Central Tenders' Commission Ahmad Al-Kuleib.
"The aim of the contracts is to increase water production capacity by 50 percent," Sheikh Ahmad noted.
Underlining the role of the private sector as a "real partner" in development projects, and in materialization of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's vision of involving the private sector in these projects, the Deputy Premier said "we celebrate the signing of four projects for the electricity and water ministry within the state's development plan; which reached 56 percent of its execution process in a short period of time." Hoping that the next six months would see the achievement of more goals, Sheikh Ahmad urged all to abide by the plan's timeline in order to reach its objectives.
For his part, Minister Al-Shureiaan said the governmental work witnessed a "qualitative" leap in terms of planning and executing projects once the development plan was endorsed.
"The project encompasses the latest in management systems and network monitoring, as it would supply south of the country with its water needs," he pointed out.
Since the development plan took off, 203 contracts, with a cost of KD two billion (USD 7.1 billion) were signed. The Mina Abdullah reservoir project will cost KD 117 million (USD 415 million), he said. (end) amn.hb KUNA 241824 Oct 10NNNN
