Baghdad blasts kill three, wound five

BAGHDAD, July 5 (KUNA) -- Several blasts killed three and wounded five in various parts of Baghdad on Monday, the police said.
A roadside bomb in the Al-Zaafaraniya south of the capital killed one policeman, wounded three and two civilians.
Meanwhile, two bombs in the Al-I'lam area south of Baghdad wounded three civilians.
The blasts come hours after two mortar shells fell near the U.S. embassy as Vice President Joe Biden visits Iraq for talks with government officials.
Lt. Gen. Qassem Atta, head of operations in the capital, told KUNA that two katyusha rockets landed in the Green Zone shortly before 1000 local time.
"One of the rockets did not explode, while the other caused heavy damage," Atta said.
Eyewitnesses from the area, which houses government buildings and diplomatic mission, said that sirens wailed before the two rockets landed. (end) mhg.aj KUNA 051317 Jul 10NNNN
