ISTANBUL, April 15 (KUNA) -- A Turkish soldier has been killed while two
others were injured in armed clashes with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers'
Party (PKK) militants in south-eastern Turkey on Thursday.
The clashes took place in Tomuk area in Batman province when members of the
military patrolling the area clashed with a group of PKK members, according to
Turkish news agency (Anadolu) quoting Turkish military Chief of Staff.
The clashes are still continuing, according to a statement by the Chief of
Staff.
The statement said the military patrol urged militants to surrender, who in
return opened gunfire.
Military forces engaged in a fierce firefight with the terrorists and a
Turkish trooper lost his life and two others were injured.
The statement added that Turkish forces imposed strict security checkpoints
in the area after the incident. (end).
