NEW DELHI , Jan 20 (KUNA) -- Amid the increased spate of incidents of
attacks on Indians in Australia, India's External Affairs Minister Somanhalli
Mallaiah Krishna said Wednesday that such incidents do not "augur well" for
Indo-Oz ties, said media reports.
As many as five Indian cabbies have been attacked in Australia during the
past week. Last month one Indian cabbie was even killed in one such attack.
Indian ministers statement assumes significance even as he had recently
indicated a possibility of Indian Government advising Indian students not to
go to Australia if the attacks on them continued.
About the latest incident of attack on an Indian cabbie yesterday, Krishna
said that he was expecting a report from the Indian High Commissioner to
Australia about it. "I have just heard the news. I am expecting a report from
our High Commissioner and after getting the report perhaps I must have
something to say," he said.
He, however, added: "But, it is very unfortunate that they keep repeating,
which does not augur well for our bilateral relationship." (end)
