ISTANBUL, June 22 (KUNA) -- Turkish security forces arrested 23 individuals
on Monday, among them leaders of a pro-Kurd political party.
According to a Turkish Security Directorate statement, the arrested were
made during a wide-scale search operation of houses of members of the pro-Kurd
Democratic Society Party in Tunceli, southeastern Turkey.
Twenty-three people were arrested, it said.
The Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) is classified as a terrorist organization
by Turkey and the EU. Since it launched its campaign for independent rule in
southeast Turkey in 1984, 45,000 people have been killed. (end)
