KUWAIT, June 1 (KUNA) -- Qadsiya football team were crowned Monday the champion of His Highness the Crown Prince 16th Cup after defeating Kuwait in a penalty shoot-out 5-3 when the original time ended 1-1.
The match which was held at Kuwait Sports Club Stadium ended the first half with Qadsiya leading 1-0.
The first goal was scored at the 27th minute by Qadsiya striker Khalaf Salamah who received the ball from teammate striker Bader Al-Mutawa into the goalkeeper's zone, wasting no time and shot the ball right of Khalid Al-Fadli.
Hopes for Kuwait team were rejuvenated after their professionally Syrian player Jihad Al-Hussain scored the crucial equalizer at the 86th minute.
Al-Hussain received a lobbing ball from another professional player Oman's Ismail Al-Ajmi and his header diverted the ball left of Qadsiya goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Khaldi.
The original time of the match ended, including the two extra times and the game went to penalty shoot-out.
Overall, the match between the two sides was equal in terms of attacks and playing field. Qadsiya dominated the first half and Kuwait took over the second half.
Qadsiya's victories in Crown Prince's Cup exceed its arch-rival Arabi who won it five times coming behind Kuwait with three times.
Qadsiya qualified to the final after beating Al-Sahel and Jahra in the quarter-finals. (pickup previous) bsu.mb KUNA 020001 Jun 09NNNN
