Moroccan paintings ... art inspired by poetry

By Mostafa Al-Sufi (with photos) RABAT, March 7 (KUNA) -- Moroccan formative artist Ro'a Al-Murabit, who is holding her art gallery here, is showcasing art pieces inspired by Arab and international poetry.
Her colorful, surreal and symbolic paintings, with images reflecting women, nature and history, offer a great example of the women's formative arts movement with the aim of reviving cultural heritage in their country.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Murabit said that her paintings were inspired by a number of renowned Arab poets such as Umru Al-Qais, Nezar Qabbani who is known for celebrating women in his poetry, besides Shakir Al-Sayyab whose work reflects Islamic-Arab history of Mesopotamia, as well as Abu Al-Baqa Al-Randi Al-Andalusi whose poetry praised Islamic history in Andalusia (currently southern Spain).
Palestine and Jerusalem are vital subjects that she feels obliged to depict in her paintings, out of her commitment to Arab nationalism.
Al-Murabit, who is an architectural engineer and a keen student of art, stressed that formative artists should have an academic background in order to be aware of the various aspects of this field and produce effective art to the audience. (end) sf.lb KUNA 070952 Mar 09NNNN
