Kuwait envoy extols Eco Summit as "significant and successful step"

AMMAN, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ambassador to Jordan Sheikh Faisal Al-Malek Al-Sabah hailed here Tuesday the recent Arab economic summit in Kuwait as a significant and successful step towards firmer Arab unity under the wise leadership of H.H. the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
The successful summit mainly led to Arab reconciliation and a single Arab position against the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, together with economic, developmental and social goals, he said in a news release.
He hailed Arab consensus on support and solidarity with the Palestinians in the territory, pointing to Saudi and Kuwaiti donations of USD 1 billion and USD 500,000 respectively, along with USD 34 million from Kuwait for UNRWA to cover the needs of the Gazans.
Such sums will be delivered to the Palestinian population of Gaza through secure and legitimate channels so that they could be used in the set purposes, he added.
He reiterated Kuwait's relentless support for the Palestinian cause and all other Arab issues.
In this context, the Kuwaiti Embassy in Amman is not going to celebrate Kuwait's National and Liberation days so as not to harm the feelings of families of Palestinians killed in the recent Israeli offensive on the coastal enclave, he added. Hailing Kuwaiti-Jordanian relations, the top Kuwaiti diplomat in Amman said H.H. Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah would visit Jordan next May to attend the World Economic Forum (Davos).
Kuwaiti-Jordanian trade exchange ranges between USD 7-8 billion, he said, pointing to distinguished ties between both Arab nations in educational, cultural, investment, economic, trade, military, security and media areas. (end) bs.mt KUNA 101651 Feb 09NNNN
