Top Kuwait lawmaker extols Eco Summit outcome

AMMAN, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's top lawmaker on Sunday acclaimed the outcomes of the Arab Economic, Social, and Development Summit, which was held in Kuwait last week.
The summit, which was mainly devoted to the discussion of Arab economic and social issues, contributed to settling disputes and disagreements among Arab countries, thus favorably affecting the Palestinian issue, Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly Jassem Al-Kharafi told Jordan's Ad-Dostour newspaper, in remarks published today.
The speaker lauded the Arab gathering in Kuwait as "totally historical" thanks to its positive results, chiefly solidarity with Gaza Strip.
He hailed His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and King Abdullah of Jordan for their great efforts in mending Arab rift and divide during the summit.
However, Al-Kharafi urged Arab leaders to become more united so as to "restore Arab dignity".
"We believe that everyone ought to bury the hatchet, to hold fast to values of Arab brotherhood, to abide by what was agreed during the Kuwait summit, and to step up Arab dialogue in a bid to find a solid base of Arab integration," he said.
He also called on Palestinian factions to unite, as their divisions would negatively impact the just cause and Arab position.
"Palestinian national unity is a significant pillar of Arab integration. Inter-Palestinian splits negatively reflect, by one way or another, pan-Arab relations since the Palestinian issue is highly placed in the heart of the Arab nation," he noted.
On Kuwaiti-Jordanian ties, he said the two countries enjoy strong and firm cooperative relations in all political, parliamentary, and economic fields.
