IHF President introduces new cup for those placed 13-24

By Ahmed Al-Refai (with photos) SPLIT, Croatia, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- President of the International Handball Federation (IHF) Dr. Hassan Mustafa introduced on Thursday a new championship entitled "IHF President's Cup" for the losing teams of the World Handball Championship.
Dr. Mustafa told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the championship is for the losing teams that did not qualify to the second round placed 13-24, as ways of boosting their will to compete.
On the other hand, he asserted that five Arab teams are in the championship -- Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait -- symbolizing the Arab countries' development in the game.
Dr. Mustafa sadly said that Tunisia and Egypt's teams unfortunately did not achieve places over 12, and therefore will not compete for the world championship.
He expressed hope that all Arab teams would succeed.
Dr. Mustafa had visited the Kuwaiti team in Split, where he wished them luck and success. (end) ayr.asa KUNA 221526 Jan 09NNNN
