Arab press still highlights Kuwait summit outcome

DAMASCUS, Jan 22 (KUNA) -- Syrian press on Thursday continued highlighting the Arab Economic, Social, and Development Summit, which wrapped up in Kuwait on Tuesday.
State-owned Tishreen newspaper hailed the outcome of the summit, but called on Arab leaders to take a decisive position against the recent Israeli aggression in a bid to thwart a similar military offensive on other Arab areas.
The Arabs are also now required to change their way of dealing with the US and to clearly tell the new US administration "we are with you insomuch as you act to rein in Israeli aggression and seek to achieve just and comprehensive peace in our region," it said.
The semiofficial Al-Watan newspaper meanwhile claimed that Israeli officials would from now on be reluctant to visit European countries for fear of legal prosecution in connection with war crimes committed against Palestinian civilians in Gaza Strip.
Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni decided to head for Brussels for an EU meeting, but only when she secured assurances that she would not face any possible legal action there.
European Union foreign ministers held an extraordinary meeting with Livni in Brussels late Wednesday to discuss the situation in Gaza following three weeks of Israeli military onslaught on the territory.
During the recent Doha and Kuwait summits, it was recommended that lawsuits be lodged with international courts against Israeli leaders for crimes of war in the Gaza Strip.(end) am.mt KUNA 221126 Jan 09NNNN
