Ban praises voluntary action in Kuwait

(With photos) KUWAIT, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon praised Monday the Voluntary Work Center in Kuwait for preserving environment, fighting pollution and global warming.
Ban, in press remarks after meeting with the Center Chairperson Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at his residence at Bayan Palace, said the society was in need of voluntary action to preserve environment.
He said the UN was always encouraging voluntary work.
Ban admired the programs and projects of the Kuwaiti center, and highlighted the plantation of trees and palms at Zayed Resort in Doha area.
Sheikha Amthal thanked Ban for showing support of the voluntary action which aimed at serving the society.
She said she proposed to Ban that the UN organize a yearly gathering for volunterring youth in New York.
Ban, at the initiative of Sheikh Amthal, planted a tree at the UN House in Mishref area. (end) kt KUNA 192027 Jan 09NNNN
