KUWAIT, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- Arab leaders ended their first session of the Economic Summit "In Solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza" Monday after keynote speeches by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and other Arab leaders.
Also speaking at the inaugural session were Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Arab League secretary general Amr Moussa, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, African Union (AU) Commission President Jean Ping, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, World Bank President Robert Zoellek, President of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Ali Al-Ghanim and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The two-day summit is mainly aimed at boosting inter-Arab economic and social integration and how to help with the reconstruction of Gaza Strip.
Kuwait donated USD 34 million to honor UNRWA's immediate needs in occupied Palestinian territories.
Kuwait also proposed the launch of a USD-two-billion Arab development initiative to provide financial resources for financing and supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Sheikh Sabah said Kuwait would contribute with USD 500 million of the capital of this initiative, which aimed at providing financial resources necessary for financing and supporting SMEs. (pickup previous) kt KUNA 191608 Jan 09NNNN
