Eco summit touches daily lives of Arabs -- Shabaan

KUWAIT, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- The Arab Economic Summit is "very important" given the critical issues pertaining to the daily lives of Arabs and providing them with a dignified life, said Syrian President's Political and Media Advisor Buthaina Shabaan on Monday.
Speaking to KUNA on the sidelines of the summit, she underscored the call of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, during his speech at the inaugural session, for overcoming threats to Arab unity and to stand as one.
She hoped the summit would issue resolutions that would make a transformation from "a summit of conflict to a summit of agreement, and unifying the Arab stance." Everyone is required to support this unity because the challenges faced by Arabs were "grave," whether related to the situation in Gaza or in Iraq.
Asked what Syria wanted out of this summit, Shabaan said her country was aware of the dangers that surrounded Arabs and considered the attacks on Gaza an act of aggression against all Arabs.
She called on Arabs to realize how undervalued the life of an Arab was in the eyes of the world, and said this required taking a single stance in the interest of their countries.
As to the holding of four summits on Gaza within a short span of time, she welcomed all efforts for effective action to accommodate the demands of the public that were now calling for true Arab action.
She said the outcomes of these summits would be judged by history, adding that the summit in Kuwait was for Arab economic and political cooperation and for the Gazans as well.
She hoped the resolutions of the summit would be applicable so that they may realize the aspirations of the people. (end) kt KUNA 191601 Jan 09NNNN
