GCC chief highlights leading role of Kuwait Amir in backing common Arab

action KUWAIT, Jan 17 (KUNA) -- GCC secretary general Abdurrahman Al-Attiyah commended Saturday the leading role of the Amir of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in backing inter-Arab action in all domains.
In a statement to KUNA, Al-Attiyah said Kuwait's hosting of the Arab economic summit, due on January 19-20, emphasized role of Kuwait in boosting inter-Arab integration to facing economic and development challenges.
Al-Attiyah, who commended the organization of the summit, said the two-day meeting was economically and politically significant because it would be held amidst crucial circumstances in the region and the entire world.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is a role model for the joint action, said Al-Attiyah, citing the custom union, the common market and the monetary union.
The GCC countries are already in the process of the electricity linkage project and movement between GCC states with the Smart Card, said Al-Attiyah. (end) kt KUNA 172052 Jan 09NNNN
