Jordan hopes Arab Eco. Summit materializes objectives

(With photos) KUWAIT, Jan 17 (KUNA) -- Jordanian minister of culture Nancy Bakir hoped Saturday the Arab economic and development summit, due on January 19-20 in Kuwait, would mark the beginning of a genuine economic and development march in the Arab world.
Bakir, speaking to KUNA on sidelines of the "Private Sector and Civil Society Forum," held before the two-day Arab Economic Summit, said the issues to be discussed by summiteers were very important because they concern daily concerns of Arab citizens.
Kuwait's initiative to call for the summit is important and unprecedented, she added.
Bakir commended the role of Kuwait in backing the development process in the Arab countries, and said the summit would be a good opportunity to foster inter-Arab economic, commercial and financial relations.
The Jordanian official said this was the first economic summit since the establishment of the Arab League.
Among priorities of the Arab summit in Kuwait are addressing poverty and unemployment, improving living conditions and stopping the migration of capitals, she noted.
The Kuwait summit, she added, would also discuss economic integration, food security, climate change, linking the Arab countries with netwoks of roads and railways and improving health care.
Jordan is very optimistic of the summit, said Bakir and hoped it would have practical and active outcome. (end) kt KUNA 171905 Jan 09NNNN
