Arab Eco. summit to show solidarity with Gaza - official

KUWAIT, Jan 16 (KUNA) -- Arab ministers of foreign and finance agreed Friday to add "Solidarity Summit with Gaza" phrase to the theme of the Arab Economic, Social and Development summit due here next week, a Kuwaiti foreign ministry official said.
Ambassador Jassem Al-Mubaraki, head of the Arab department, told KUNA on sidelines of a meeting of the Arab foreign and finance ministers that the first session of the summit would be wholly dedicated to discussing the situation in Gaza Strip.
The ministers, he added, also agreed to add the "Solidarity Summit with Gaza" phrase to the theme of the two-day summit.
Al-Mubaraki said officials holding preparatory meetings ahead of the summit have prepared the draft resolutinos and the Kuwait Declaration.
The Kuwait Declaration also includes recommendations of ministers of finance and governors of central banks regarding the global financial crisis.
Meanwhile, a draft resolution obtained by KUNA said the Israeli aggression on Gaza would be the first article to be discussed by the Arab leaders.
The draft resolution said the Arab leaders are to discuss means of halting the Israeli aggression against Gaza.
It called for the establishment of a fund for the reconstruction in Gaza.
The Arab League council called, meanwhile, in a draft resolution to be referred to the summit called for immediate opening of border crossings with Gaza to facilitate entry of humanitarian supplies.
It supported the Egyptian initiative which called for ceasing the Israeli hostilities and establishing a ceasefire. It also called for the implementation of UN resolution 1860.
It called on the international community and UN Security Council in particular to live up to their legal and moral responsibilities in line with the international law and UN resolutions.
The draft resolution called for sending more humanitarian and medical supplies for the Palestinians in Gaza in coordination with Egypt and Jordan.
It urged Arab countries to doubling efforts to swiftly achieve conciliation between the Palestinian factions for the sake of the Palestinian unity to ultimately establish the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
It called for considering the way the Arab countries were dealing with Israel, including the activation of the Arab boycott of the Jewish state.
The draft resolution called for intensifying contacts with the new American Administration over the peace process in the Middle East.
It assigned the Arab League secretariat to document the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza. (end) kt KUNA 162213 Jan 09NNNN
