(with photos) TUNIS, Jan 16 (KUNA) -- Tunisian Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Nadhir Hamada expected on Friday that the Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit would approve two major scientific projects in the field of development protection.
The summit, to be held in Kuwait on January 19-20, is expected to approve a project for environment cooperation among Arab countries and another one on international cooperation in the same field, Hamada told KUNA here.
"The first project envisages launching an Arab satellite, to be positioned above Algeria, to detect the harmful effects of climate change," he said.
"It also aims to detect the erosion of the continental shelf in the Arab area in a precise scientific way," the minister revealed.
"The second project on the environment agenda of the summit envisages launching an Arab fund for investment in environment protection with a view to combating all forms of pollution in the Arab area in cooperation with international concerned agencies," he added.
Hamada voiced hope that the summit would give the green light to the two major projects as well as the other pan-Arab collective and bilateral initiatives in order to allow their enactment as soon as possible. (end) nm.gb.
