Comoros FM stresses Kuwait summit significance

(With photos) KUWAIT, Jan 16 (KUNA) -- Comoros Foreign Minister Ahmed Ben Sa'id Jaffar said here Friday the Arab Economic, Development and Social Summit due to be held in Kuwait on January 19-20 would be significant to all Arab countries.
Interviewed by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Jaffar urged the summit to adopt a resolution stimulating development projects in Comoros, saying that Comoros is a very poor Arab country.
Comoros has no infrastructure or social projects, he said, hoping that the conferees could come up with recommendations that could contribute to pushing forward development projects in the country.
He added that his country had adopted fresh laws aiming to attract Arab investors, calling on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to open an office in the country just as the Arab League had recently done.
The foreign minister of Comoros voiced his country's willingness to develop and bolster relations with Kuwait on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation.
He pointed out that Kuwait had set up several development projects in Comoros in the area of tourism and banking, wishing more Arab involvement in the country.
He commended Kuwait's official and popular support for his country, hailing bilateral relations as distinguished.
The Kuwait summit is of paramount significance given the fact that it will focus on pan-Arab economic cooperation at a very critical time when the global economy is ailing, he said.
He termed the summit as a good opportunity for Arab countries to find an effective mechanism for bolstering pan-Arab trade.
In February 2008, Kuwait and Comoros hammered out four agreements in the trade, cultural, educational, economic, media and technical fields. (end) kz.ka.mah.mt KUNA 161045 Jan 09NNNN
