Gaza, topic of consensus on agenda of Arab economic summit - Al-Khalid

(with photos) KUWAIT, Jan 15 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Minister of Information Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said on Thursday the incidents in Gaza Strip were a topic of consensus, not difference, on agenda of the coming Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit, due here on January 19-20.
"There is general consensus on all topics of the agenda among the Arab leaders," Al-Khalid told reporters following an inspection tour of the information center of the summit at JW Marriott Hotel.
"The Arab leaders are unanimous on the importance of putting an end to the tragedy of Gaza but they differ on the means to do so. Gaza is an issue of concern to all of us, we Arabs. We are doing every possible effort to tackle this vital and pivotal issue," he said.
"We could have different viewpoints on how to stop the tragedy, but I believe there is a consensus on the importance of stopping it," Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid made clear.
Asked about the possibility of raising the suggestion of launching a fund for the post-conflict reconstruction of Gaza Strip during the summit, he said the proposal would be discussed during the pre-summit Arab foreign ministers meeting. due on Friday.
As for the other topics of the agenda of the summit, he affirmed that there is a general consensus on them because all Arab countries realize the need for more effective cooperation that could lead to a genuine economic integration.
"The summit has to outline the priority order of the projects slated for financing and implementation," Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid pointed out.
While raising the proposal of holding the economic summit in cooperation with Egypt, Kuwait conceived the importance of launching mechanisms for implantation of all development projects in synchronization with the summit, he revealed.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid renewed condemnation of the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip, saying: "Our people in Gaza are undergoing a real genocide... We must find the way to save them and stop the bloodshed." The coming summit will definitely highlight the necessity of support for Gaza in the political and economic domains, he said, reaffirming that all Arab leaders attribute great importance to the issue.
The State of Kuwait made great efforts to set the stage for the inauguration of summit on Monday in cooperation with civil society organizations, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid added, voicing confidence that the summit would adopt viable and practical resolutions. (end) jy.na.gb.
