Eco summit consolidates joint Arab action -- Al-Mansour

KUWAIT, Jan 15 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti-Egyptian initiative for holding the Arab Economic Summit comes to consolidate joint Arab action such that the aspirations of the people can be achieved and challenges be met, said Kuwait's permanent representative to the Arab League Ambassador Abdullah Al-Mansour on Thursday.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Arab Economic Summit's preparatory meeting of permanent representatives to the Arab League, he said, "The vision behind holding this summit is to improve the living standards of Arab citizens, activating the role of the price sector in development projects, and working to separate economic action from politics." He said the Arab League's Economic and Social Council formed a ministerial committee to prepare for the Arab Economic Summit, which took into account important topics that had to be discussed, including encouraging the participation of the private sector.
The recommendations of this committee and the final drafts will be discussed by the Arab leaders in their meeting here on Monday and Tuesday, including Kuwait Declaration, the draft agenda of the leaders' meeting, and draft resolutions.
Al-Mansour called for greater insistence on developing joint Arab action, adding that the summit was only the beginning and all states must seek to transform the projects discussed here into reality.
Following the speech, the Arab League representatives began their closed-door session to approve the agenda of the leaders' summit. The meeting was attended by Secretary General Amr Moussa, Summit General Coordinator Mirvet Talawi, and Assistant Secretary for Economic Affairs Dr. Mohammad Al-Tuwaijri.
The meeting's agenda includes three draft resolutions: Kuwait Declaration on improving the living standards of Arabs, the agenda, and resolutions. (end) jy.sar.ema KUNA 151148 Jan 09NNNN
