Kuwait Summit hailed by Algerian, Tunisian officials

KUWAIT, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- Algerian Minister of Commerce El Hachemi Djaaboub on Wednesday noted the importance of the Arab Economic Summit held in Kuwait in light of issues the world is currently facing.
He said that he hopes the summit will suggest a strategy to curb the aftereffects of the economic downturn on Arab countries, providing groundwork for cooperative measures to tackle the crisis.
On the other hand a statement issued by the Tunisian Foreign Ministry said that the Kuwait Summit offered "appropriate and suitable" grounds to discuss putting a stop to the bloodshed of Palestinians.
A local official made the statement according to the state-run Tunis Afrique Presse News Agency after rumours of Tunisia's participation in the emergency summit recently called by Qatar.
The official said that the issue is not against a participation in a Doha convergance, but that its scheduled time coincides with the Arab Foreign Minister's meeting in Kuwait on January 16.
The Foreign Ministry on Tuesday had confirmed that it would not be taking part in the Doha Summit in light of its "commitment towards correct preparation for any Arab move." (end) jk.ft.sd KUNA 150020 Jan 09NNNN
