FAB delegation to head for Kuwait summit on Friday

AMMAN, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- The secretariat of the Federation of Arab Businessmen (FAB) said on Wednesday it would send on Friday a delegation to the Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit, due in Kuwait on January 19-20.
The delegation, to be led by FAB President Hamdi Al-Tabba', includes also Secretary General Thabet Al-Taher, Vice President Hussein Sabbor, the Amman-based secretariat said in a statement.
Al-Tabba' is scheduled to preside over the trade and investment forum, to be held on the sidelines of the summit.
The forum will focus on the challenges facing the pan-Arab customs union, the key step towards the Arab common market, the statement pointed out.
It will also explore ways for increasing the bilateral trade volume among the Arab countries, the opportunities for joint investments and the possible ways to facilitate the movement of individuals, commodities and capital.
The forum will work our recommendations on economic, social and development issues that will be included in the final document of the summit, the statement revealed.
FAB's paper to the summit underlines the importance of attracting more Arab investments to key economic projects as part of efforts to launch a firm regional economic bloc based on close historical, social, cultural ties among the Arab countries.
It aims to lay the groundwork for launching a greater Arab free trade area and achieving sustainable social-economic development, the statement pointed out.
The FAB has worked out a long list of projects slated for construction in the areas of road building, harbors, oil, gas, electricity, food security, shipping, air transport, and solar, wind and nuclear energies, it added.
Launched in 1997, the FAB is a non government non-profit independent body that groups business associations, societies, institutions and businessmen unions of the Arab countries. (end) bs.gb.
