Kuwait eco summit an important step towards Arab integration -- official

By Mash'hour Abu Eid AMMAN, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- Chairman of Jordanian Chamber of Commerce Haidar Murad said Wednesday that the Arab Economic Summit, to be held in Kuwait on January 19-20, would be a turning point in the development of Arab investments and economic integration, thereby improving the living standards of Arab citizens.
He added, in an interview with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), that the private sector played a great role in the development process, adding that the summit should focus on involving the private sector in the economic decision-making process.
He said Arab governments should be more committed to open economy policies in the Arab markets.
Moreover, he said the upcoming summit would be an opportunity to enhance economic cooperation and joint Arab work, establishing a fair economic partnership and a better use of energy resources.
Murad, who is also a member of the Jordanian Senate, said that securing a leading position in the global economic picture did not only depend on natural resources, but more importantly on human resources.
