Kuwait summit reflects Amir''s zeal for Arab integration - Diplomat

(with photos) RABAT, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's initiative to play host to the Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit reflects the strenuous efforts by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to enhance joint Arab action, Kuwait Ambassador to Morocco Salah Mohammad Al-Ba'ijan said on Tuesday.
"The summit, due on January 19-20, materializes the leading role played by HH the Amir to bolster up the economic cooperation among the Arab countries in order to serve the higher interests of the Arab nation," Al-Ba'ijan said in a statement to KUNA here.
"The event also materializes Kuwait's pivotal role in the Arab and Muslim spheres regardless of any geographical barriers.
"Kuwait is keen on serving as catalyst for pan-Arab economic integration and backing the regional and international socio-economic development," the Kuwaiti diplomat pointed out.
The summit, which will group dozens of Arab heads of state and government as well as large numbers of decision makers and experts, coincides with complicated situations in the Arab region and the world due to the economic and financial crises.
It will serve as a timely opportunity for tackling the challenges facing the Arab countries and working out solutions for key problems such as the growing rates of unemployment and poverty as well as the deteriorating standards of living of Arab citizens.
"The summit is expected to adopt resolutions for improving the standards of education and rehabilitating the human resources in a bid to achieve sustainable socio-economic development," Al-Ba'ijan said.
The Arab leaders will probe ways of improving the infrastructures in, and enhancing the bilateral trade among their countries as well as encouraging the private sectors to play a more active role in the development process.
They will encourage the Arab private investors to launch major joint ventures in all domains in order to back the comprehensive development process in the region, he expected.
The Arab countries enjoy huge material and human resources that could serve as firm basis for the desired development process if properly exploited, Al-Ba'ijan underscored.
He voiced hope that the summit would reach resolutions that rise to the aspirations of the Arab nation for a genuine and comprehensive socio-economic development, he added. (end) sf.gb KUNA 132239 Jan 09NNNN
