Arab eco. summit in Kuwait on time - Moussa

CAIRO, Jan 10 (KUNA) -- Arab League secretary general Amr Moussa said Saturday the Arab economic and social summit would be held in Kuwait on time, January 19-20.
Speaking in a seminar organized by the League secretariat over the economic summit, Moussa said all Arab leaders were keen on attending the two-day summit because of the crucial economic conditions worldwide.
He said the summit, the first of a kind, would jump start economic and social development in Arab countries and would further inter-Arab integration.
Moussa said the Arab summiteers would discuss a host of economic files ranging from investment, trade, custom union, the free trade zone, common Arab market, communications, health, to reforms and the global financial crisis.
They will also discuss electricity linkage project, the establishment of networks of roads, railways and airways and marine routes between Arab countries, said Moussa, in addition to environment, climate change and water resources.
The Arab League chief said the summit would discuss education, unemployment, immigration, culture, women issues and housing.
General Coordinator of the summit Mervat Telawi, speaking in the same seminar said the summit would tackle issues of concern to the Arab citizens.
The high-level meeting also aimed at improving living conditions of the Arab people, tackling brain-drain and immigration of capitals, she added.
The summit in Kuwait is totally different than regular summits, said Telawi, because it would involve intellectuals, businesspeople and civil service societies.
The summit, added the coordinator, would be based on special studies prepared by specialists over integration issues. (end) kz.bs KUNA 102336 Jan 09NNNN
