CAEU chief calls for holding Kuwait summit as scheduled

CAIRO, Jan 8 (KUNA) -- The chief of the Council of Arab Economic Unity (CAEU) stressed here Thursday that a planned Arab economic summit due to be held in Kuwait on January 19-20 should take place as scheduled.
Now that it will tackle economic, rather than political, issues, the summit ought to be held as planned, Ahmed Guwaili told a news conference.
The summit will consider a lot of economic and financial issues that will bring favorable reflections to the living standards of all Arab citizens and will even reduce joblessness in Arab countries, he added.
He uncovered that the summit could be held on a periodical basis, noting that Egypt had asked to play host to another Arab economic summit by 2011.
On the sufferings of the Palestinian people due to the uninterrupted Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, he stressed the necessity of providing emergency and relief aid to the besieged Gazans.
