Kuwaiti official visits Damascus to discuss Arab Economic Summit

 DAMASCUS, Dec 21 (KUNA) -- A Kuwaiti official arrived here Sunday to discuss preparations for the upcoming Arab economic and social development summit to be held in Kuwait on January 19-20.
Head of the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry's economic department Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled Al-Sabah told KUNA after his arrival that he would be meeting with several Syrian officials to discuss the matter of the summit's preparations.
He revealed that a consultation meeting for Arab Finance Ministers and governors of central banks would be held on January 14 and would be followed by a preparatory meeting for the summit.
January 17-18 would also be the dates for economic and financial forums aimed at producing draft papers for the summit, the official said, affirming that all proposals and draft papers would help to formulate the summit's final communique.
Sheikh Ali also stressed that the summit in Kuwait would be the cornerstone for other summits in the future, saying that Egypt called for holding a second Arab economic and social development summit after two years.
The Kuwaiti leadership's vision for the event was to create a launch-pad to encourage Arab private sector cooperation which would hopefully reflect positively on Arab economies.
Several major projects such as the grand Arab railway and the linking of power-stations in the Arab region are going to be include in the summit next January. (end) ek.gta KUNA 212308 Dec 08NNNN
